Americans with Disabilities Act
It is the practice of the Wood Dale Park District not to discriminate against any person from participating in Park District services, programs and activities on the basis of a disabling condition. If you or a family member has a disability and are interested in participating in or attending a Park District program or activity or if you or a family member require publications or other materials of the Park District in special format (e.g., Braille, audio cassette, large print), please advise our staff. To assist the Park District in making these accommodations, we invite any person with a special need to contact the Park District staff prior to you or your family member’s intended participation or attendance to discuss the necessary accommodation(s). This will help lead to a smooth inclusion. Besides the programs listed in our brochure, the Park District also provides additional specialized services for people with disabilities through NEDSRA (Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association). Feel free to contact them at 630.620.4500.
Inclusion provides opportunities for individuals with and without special needs to experience recreation together at the Wood Dale Park District. Inclusion looks at the needs, interests and abilities of the individuals instead of focusing on their special needs. Inclusion supports the process of preparing, learning, experiencing and growing for each individual, family and staff member. Inclusion provides a recreational choice.
The Wood Dale Park District strongly supports inclusion. In partnership with our Special Recreation Association, NEDSRA accommodations are provided to ensure successful participation in all programs. Contact the park district for further information or simply check the ADA box on the Registration Form and a staff member from the Park District will contact you prior to the start of the program.
Equal Access for Persons with Disabilities and Special Accomodations
We are working cooperatively with NEDSRA to offer equal access to all recreation programs for persons with disabilities. If you or a member of your family are interested in one of our programs or needs some assistance or modifications, NEDSRA may provide a trained Leisure Buddy to assist in your inclusion in our program. For special needs, the support and encouragement provided by the Leisure Buddy may be the key to enjoyment and successful participation in one of our programs. For more information on the Leisure Buddy Service in Wood Dale Park District programs, call NEDSRA at 630.620.4500. Special services or accommodations will be provided to participants on an “as needed” basis. Please let us know in advance of your special need and we will contact you directly.
